Our Reservoir Expedition… Part II

We had our lunch here at Casuarina Curry Restaurant at Casuarina Way. The food was pretty decent with Jayden keep commenting that it is very nice! although I only find it ‘ok’.

Our Reservoir expedition… Part I

We did not really want to go any place since Javier was not feeling well enough, but he was way too cranky and whiny at home. Thus we decide it would be a better idea if we just bring the boys to some place for just a run and some sweating. Since we are going to Casaurina Way (at Upper Thomson) for prata, we decided to make a short trip to the Lower Peirce Reservoir before our lunch.I think the boys love this place.. abundance place for them to run and just having fun just looking at the water for water insects.

Books we Love - July

I guess that doing a monthly post for the books that we have read is too tiring. Thus I think it would be good if I just do a post only on the books we enjoy reading togather every month.

A fish out of Water by Helen Palmer

We did a lapbook on this story which I haven’t got time to sort through all the stuffs yet. Thus I will do a post on this lapbook after I have sorted it all out.

This is a very fun book about a little boy who gets a fish and doesn't listen to Mr. Carp ( the pet shop owner) who tells him how to feed the fish. Of course the little boy doesn't follow directions and finds out that bad things can happen when you don't follow to directions.

In the end, the pet store owner comes to the rescue after the police and firemen have done their part to try to help get the fish into the water. A good lesson about listening to, and following instructions, and asking for help when you need it.

He’s sick!

He’s tired.. I’m tired! We are both tired due to the sleep deprived!!! Javier was feverish throughout the night and coughing very badly, I feel so heartpain to see him waking up numerous time due to the bad cough and vomited twice. As his fever was quite high, I gotta wake him up in the middle of the night to feed him the medicine, and luckily he was cooperative and did not fuss when I wake up.

Looking sulky when I told him that he won’t be able to go to the excursion.

As predicted, he was disappointed and unhappy that he is going to miss the excursion. He was even throwing a mild temper and we had a rather funny conversation.

Drawing Fruits

Recently, Jayden seems to love drawing fruits. Everyday when he comes back from school or when he is free in the night time, he would be seen drawing fruit trees. Perhaps it is due to the recent learning in his kindergarten on the topic of fruits. Another favourite creature of his now is earthworm.. currently he is a crazy about a book we read on earthworm. It’s a must read book for him every night. And he told me the long thingy in the drawing is the earthworm and it is eating the watermelon. :P (Hmmm….a bit yucky)

Javier’s Term 3 Excursion - Children Mandarin Drama “A Little Tadpole Looking for Mom”

bus01

My boy is suppose to go to Tampines East CC Cultural Centre to watch the Chinese Drama “A little tadpole looking for mom” tomorrow with his classmate.

It seems to be a pretty interesting story:

“About-- The mother frog gave birth to many eggs which slowly come alive and become a group of small tadpoles with large heads and long tails.

The little Tadpole – “Tou Tou” was swimming happily in the water. One day she decided to look for her mother. In her journey, she met many good friends and also bad creatures. The bad creatures wanted to hurt her. See how she overcomes all the obstacles and finally manage to find her mother with the help from her good friends. Come and watch the show to find out the answer . You will enjoy a different experience with the black-light theatre effects for the show.”

Javier is really looking forward to the drama tomorrow, but sad to say he might not be able to watch it  as he is currently down with fever and cough. Actually I was planning and checking for other available dates which I could bring him for the drama, but quite unluckily tomorrow is the last date for the drama. I guess he would be a tad disappointed tomorrow! :(

Using a Stencil…

Javier likes to dig around my study room for things to experiment with. And it so happen he saw this stencil today and he asked me whether he can use it for his drawing. Of course, I gladly agreed!!!

Bento #23 Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars

Jayden wanted me to prepare French toast for him since Monday, but as I wasn’t feeling well that day.. ended up I only did it for him today. But my little fussy boy complained why the French toast is not a triangle as the previous bento????? And he reminded me to do triangle French toast for him next time. :(

Consists of French toast, rice crackers, apples, cheese, coco krunch and jelly.

Yummy Bento Book

Capture

This is the first bento book which I had laid my hand on. It was such a ‘hot’ book that I gotta reserved the book online before successfully borrowing it. This book is perfect for people who have just starting to make Cute Bento Boxes. It gives detailed instructions that are easy to follow and tips as well. It tells you all the different tools and items needed to make an adorable bento box. I had gotten great ideas in creating fun snacks and lunches for both of my boys from this book.

My Addiction…

Well, guess what? Friends or relatives who step into my study room would give me an unbelievable and ‘wow wow’ to me when they see the huge collection of manga aka comics in there. They would said to me “Your hubby loves to read comics!” And when I told them actually it belongs to me, they were quite taken aback. :P Maybe I don’t look like the type that have this hobby of reading comics???? But in fact… I LOVE manga!!!! I have been a manga fan since my secondary school days, deeply influenced by one of my classmate. :P  I still remember my colleagues even bought a series of manga (consisting of 40 over books)  as my farewell gift on my last day of work. :D

To some people, they may think reading comics is childish or uncool… but I certainly doesn’t feel this way. I will still read it on train or bus. :P And I find that by reading comics it helps to release my stress.

Bento #22 Scary Mousey

Actually I was contemplating whether I should post this Bento or not…. It looks rather scary to me. :P I was intending to make a cute mousey for the boys. But oh, as it turn it, it becomes a rather frightening looking mouse.

Consist of Red bean paste bun decorated with cheese, choco chips for eyes, coco krunch for nose, seaweed for whiskers, rice crackers for the ears and some apples.

Same or Different

Spotting the difference is not one of Javier’s strong area. Normally I got to give him alot of hints in order for him to spot it. Thus I try to do more of this type of worksheet to improve his observation skill.

Addition with Fish

We did some addition revision today using our fishing toy. Javier would fish the number of fishes as shown on the number at the top of the paper. Then add them togather and put the answer himself.

Bento #21 Brown Froggy

(Consist of London choco Roll, apple, jelly)

Few hours ago, I wasn’t feeling very well with fever, tonsillitis ( bad throat inflammation), blocked nose, cough, headache, body ache since Saturday. Luckily D took leave today and take care of the boys for me as I was feeling really drowsy after taking the medication.

Although I don’t feel good, but I wanted to make prepare a light Bento for the boys as they will look forward to it when they come back from school every day.

But glad to say that I am feeling much better now as I typed this post with the headache and body ache gone.

Baby Bermes is one month old!

Today Baby Bermes is officially one month old. I bet my boys is waiting anxiously for this little baby to grow up soon so that he could play with them. They likes to ask me… can baby walk already? can baby crawl already?… :D

A mini excursion

After the i-creative class, we went to my Pil place as today my nephew is officially 1 month old and we miss this little cute baby after not seeing him for 1 week.

Of course, the kids were enjoying themselves while we were there, fishing, cycling, watching show and seeing the chicken.

Despite the hot weather, the kids doesn’t mind one bit and wanted to do some fishing.

Jayden 1st Dental Experience

After dily daly for quite sometimes, we finally brought Jayden for his 1st dental appointment today. I was rather worried that he would be scared. But as it turn out my worry was undue for!! He felt in love with this friendly dentist after today. He even ask me when are we going to visit him again. :)

He was so gentle and patient with Jayden. He explained all the things he is going to use on him slowly and patiently and even read a book about ‘Timmy visit the dentist” to Jayden. Jayden was so proud of himself and told us that Dr friendly praised him for being such a good boy and has taken good care of his teeth. :P

Alphabet Match Book

Javier likes to follow Jayden to his taekwondo lesson despite that I kept asking him to stay at home to read books, play toys or do activity with him. But he is rather adamant about his decision and insist on going with Jayden. Perhaps he love the freedom to run about or play the playground with other kids if he go there.

P1 Registration

It’s confirmed that Jayden has managed to secure a Primary one place for 2012. :D So now we just have to wait patiently for the day of the orientation on 26 November 2011.

Actually I am feeling pretty excited and nervous too to see that Jayden would be entering into a new phase of his schooling life soon. Sometime I can’t believe that time seems to pass by so quickly… and my boy is going to enter Primary school in a few months time.

Bento #20 Simple French Toast Bento

I did a simple bento for my boys today and Jayden love it so much that he finished Javier unfinished toast and also my share of toast when he happened to see it in the kitchen. :(

Consists of French toast, apples and quail eggs with nori expression.

Under the sea craft time

My boys love doing craft especially this type, where they got to stir, dip, mixed as many colour as they like and getting messy all over the place. In fact they asked me quite often for it which I seldom say ‘yes’ lo. Cos it really get very messy!!!! :P

Although its already 9.30pm when we came back from Jayden Berries Class, but to the boys, the night is still young and we are really in the mood for some craft. So here we are with our stuffs….. ready to do some serious painting and stamping.

Bento #19 Under the Sea

Since I still have some free time before my boys come back from school, I make a simple peanut butter sandwich for my boys to go with the butter cookies which I had just baked  :D

(Consists of sandwich, rainbow fish made of cheese, and caramel corn snacks)

Rainbow Butter Cookies

I baked these cookies for Javier’s school racial harmony day celebration tomorrow. Actually I was feeling kinda lazy from the baking yesterday and wasn’t really in the mood to bake today. So I asked Javier if is it ok if I fried fishballs for him to bring to school tomorrow instead … And his reply was a firm ‘no’ and that he wants me to bake cookies for him.

My little boy kept asking me and remind me to bake cookies for him before he left for school. So how can I disappoint him???? So I decided to do a simpler one instead of the doggie cookies.

Titi Eco Farm Papaya & Lemon Juice

I was introduced to this Papaya & Lemon Juice some time ago by 1 of my friend. It is really good for treating constipation. I did not really see the results upon drinking. However after Javier consumed half a bottle, I started to see a noticeably change in his bowel. He started to poo every 1-2 days, and the poo is no longer as hard as before.

From the initial stage that I gotta force him to drink to now that he is loving this drink. Every time when I pass him this cup of juice, he will say it is orange juice and gulp down at one go. :D

He goes dip dip dip

Javier has overcome his fear of water and is able to submerge in the water for more than 5 seconds. :D

To the pool again!!!

Since Jayden started his swimming lesson, the boys love the pool even more. Fearsome of water is no longer in their dictionary… They used to be afraid to submerge in the water.. but not now!!!!

They were having so much fun playing togather….

Milo Doggies Cookies

This is my 2nd time baking this doggies cookies. The previous time I made Horlick Doggies Cookies whereas for this baking, I substituted horlick with Milo instead. As it turn out the doggies still look as ugly as the previous baking. :(

I baked these cookies for Jayden Racial Harmony Day celebration in school tomorrow. He was  pretty excited when he saw these when he came back from school today. After he gobbled up the 2nd piece of cookies, I asked him whether is it nice? He says “of course!” :D

Whereas for my other little boy, he was stuffing down the 3rd piece when I asked him.

Mummy: Nice or not?
Javier: Yucks, Not nice!
Mummy: @_@
{A while later…..}
Javier: Mummy, can I eat one more?
Mummy: I thought you said not nice.
Javier: Nooooo… very nice!!!
Mummy: @_@

We went fishing!!!

This activity is mainly for the revision of the words or numbers that Javier had learnt recently.I printed many fishes from various colour paper and spent some time cutting all of it. :P and Jayden was very helpful to insert the paper clips to all the fishes for me this afternoon. :D

Javier was so excited when he saw the fishing rod with all the fishes and couldn’t wait to start fishing.

ABC – Missing Letters

We did a simple worksheet, spotting the missing letters. He can do most of it but needed a little help in the missing “U”. :D

I printed the worksheet here. There is a wide collection of other ABC order worksheets in the website.

Learning Parts of fish

I introduce parts of fish to Javier and also as a revision for Jayden. I make a simple fish from felt cloth and printed some word labels for our learning. (but left out the tail, thus added in a handwritten one for that label)

Bento #18 Piggie Muddy

Jayden loves to eat this Tau Sa Bao with pink skin. He is always asking me to buy it for him for snack. Thus I was thinking of doing something cute with this bun. Since it is pink, I thought it would be perfect to make it into a piggie.

The pink bun with nori expression and cheese ears and nose. I also added some coco crunch as requested by Javier as mud (I know it doesn’t really look like mud) :P

Salt water experiment

To go with our learning for this month, I wanted to do a experiment with them to show that it’s easier to float in salt water rather than plain water. Which is due to the salt water can hold up more than plain water.
Try this experiment to see for yourself.  You'll need:

  • 2 clear, wide mouth containers
  • warm water
  • 1 cup salt
  • we use egg, lime

I can write my name!

My initial plan was not for him to write it in the box, but I wanted him to stamp his name using the alphabets’ stamp. But as it turn out, he told me he can write and wanted to write instead. So I just go with his flow. A pretty good effort!!! :D   You can print the name stamping worksheet from here.

Update on I-creative lesson

A short update on his learning progress.

A short story of “Ben and Roy” in booklet type.

Javier reading Peter & Jane Book 2a

I have stop the Peter and Jane reading with Javier for close to 2 months. Recently I started it with him but rather slowly again, in case he gets turn off again.

Javier was in a super good mood today that he rushed to grab this book and says he wanted to read it himself. And he even read a few pages at one go.

Primary School for Jayden

I have registered Jayden for Primary school 2012 today. It’s a load off my mind now as I don’t have to worry about balloting. But I still need the confirmation letter from the school to notify me that Jayden is guaranteed a place in that school on this coming Thursday. But judging from the results of the below table, it is quite confirmed that our registration is ‘successful’! :D

Bento #17 Rabbit

Today I did a rabbit bun for my boys. But I think it look a little dull with just a rabbit, so I decided to throw in a few m&ms to make it more colourful.

(Consists of bun with cheese eye, ears and teeth, chocolate chips for the eye ball and freckles and half a grape for the nose)

Hello Swan!!!!

It’s been sometimes since we pay a visit to the swan at the Swan lake Gazebo @ Botanics Garden. And I bet that my boys would surely love this trip, and boy was I 100% right!!!!

We woke up bright and late and on top of the lazing around, we finally make our way to Botanics Garden at 10.45am. Before dropping by at the swan lake, we stop here for the boys to see some fishes and of course vast amount of spaces for them to jump about….

Jayden’s 3rd swimming lesson

This video was taken after Jayden’s swimming lesson today. It’s a really big improvement from the 1st lesson where he is so fearful of the water. He can swim a short distance without assistance now, although his stroke is still not quite right yet.

More fun @ Vivo City

We decided to have a snack and some rest after the walk at Long John Silver where the boys chanced upon this playground and couldn’t wait to check it out. So we decided to go with them… we take a rest while they play, well definitely not a bad arrangement. :D

An evening stroll at Sentosa Boardwalk

Tonight is a really nice day to take a leisure walk at the Sentosa Boardwalk with the cool wind blowing by. Except that with 2 monkeys around, not much leisure-ing lo… gotta keep our eyes on them and run after them…..cos they will disappear from our sight in a blink of an eye. :(

He can spell!!!

Of course he can’t really spell yet, but with this Jr Boggle’s help, he can. :D  So he would see the spelling on the picture card and find the letters on the cube to form the word.

Learning about sizes

A very simple activity that need no preparation.

Adding Pot of gold

Jayden is pretty good in doing 2 digit addition and subtraction. We did some addition using coins to prepare him for his Primary school life next year.

Telling time by half hr

Javier is pretty good in telling time by hr, so I decided to take a step further and teach him to tell time by half hr. He seems to get the concept already, but at times he still get a little confuse. I guess he need to practice more. :D

Chocolate Lava Cake

I decided to make this chocolate cake for my boys instead of the usual sandwich bento, hope that they would like it.  And doesn’t this cake look sweet when served in this cute bear plate. :D

I chanced upon this recipe here. Its a really simple cake to bake and it only took me 30 minutes from preparation to complete baking.

Sunny yFried Rice with Roasted chicken

I cooked a real simple dinner for me and D tonight mainly due to laziness, while I cooked noodle fish slice soup for my boys.

Bento #15 – The Very hungry Caterpillar

After watching the show, Javier was still very deeply in love with the show that he has been pestering me to bring him to watch it again every day. So I decided to do a caterpillar bento for them today. :D

(Bento consist of Sandwich cute into 4 circles with nori for expression, antenna using mamee,  apples, grapes ,oranges and rice crackers.)

My little helper

My boys likes to help me with my chores like collecting the dry clothes from the drying rack and folding it for me. Although sometimes they seems to create more jobs for me. :P But I am glad to see that Javier can fold clothes pretty well now.

Jayden’s Breakthrough….

I am so happy to see that Jayden have overcome his fear of water! :D Initially I was rather impatient with him and seeing that he refused to try submerging in the water when we asked him to today.. I got mad!!!! *( But after cooling down I slowly guided Jayden with patient and lots of encouragement… He DID it!!!!

We love going to swimming pool!

We brought the boys to the pool this evening after getting a new goggles for him at Northpoint shopping centre after his Icreative class.

He looks so ease in the 1.2m pool.
