Berries: 小一精英班

As I had mentioned earlier, we were contemplating whether to let Jayden continue his Berries class this year. The reason being that the timing is very rush for him, given that he reached home at 6.50 or 6.55pm and his class starts at 7.30pm. Thus after considering the pro and cons, we decided to let him continue for this term and see how it goes. Judging from the past 2 weeks, I would say that though it can be quite rush, but we managed quite well. He can still shower and have his dinner before we rush him to his lesson, reaching there punctually.  

Jayden started his Berries class last Thursday and he was glad to see most of the same friends from last year. And he was double-ly glad to see the new boy who joined their class today, it was none other than his super good buddy from Hope kindy. The both of them were grinning from ear to ear when they hopped out of the classroom after the lesson!
 

P1 Chinese Preparatory Graduation

A year has gone by and Jayden is graduating from Berries P1 Chinese Preparatory Class today. He has learn well in Berries and I can see that his Chinese improved a lot after attending this class. I have decided to let him continue the Berries class next year although the timing is quite rush, but since it is only once a week, I think that is still not too bad.

Berries Progress Report

 

Jayden received his Berries progress report last week. He is doing fine in most of the category listed except for his Hanyu Pinyu which needs more practice. The comments which the teacher wrote is not new to me…. :P as this is what most of his teachers had been telling me since he started attending school. :(

 

Berries Graduation Certificate

Wow… times seem to zoom by so fast, Jayden has been with Berries for half a year. And I am very pleased with his improvement, he can recognize much more Chinese words and knows alot of Idioms now, not only that he likes to use idioms in his conversation when he talks to us now. (Really 学以至用！）

He would be continuing Berries for the P1 Preparatory class on Jan 2011.

Berries 1st Test

Jayden took his 1st Chinese test at Berries last Thursday. It was a surprise test, so no preparation was done. And I am really proud that Jayden did quite well for the test.

Berries Lesson 02.09.2010

The lesson seems to get more interesting and Jayden really enjoys going to the class every week. Today the theme for the lesson is “马戏团”. Beside the teaching of the materials and doing some worksheet in class, there is always a craft related to the theme. Today a magic trick was taught and Jayden was so eager to demonstrate it us when he came out of the class. :)

I took a video of him doing the magic trick. Actually the video was not taken very well as it did not show clearly the trick.  The trick was to turn a cup which was cut into half into a whole cup.

Berries Chinese Class

Jayden started his first chinese lesson at Berries last Thursday. I managed to peeped into the classroom through the small glass panel at the door during his lesson time. The lesson looks interesting to me and I can see that Jayden is enjoying it very much. There is a total of 11 students in his class with 2 teachers, which I feel is a comfortable ratio. (No chance of Jayden daydreaming in the class. :)

For the learning materials, instead of giving out worksheet to the students every week. The school have a textbook and the workbook for them. I flipped through the textbook, and I like the content inside the book. For this lesson, the theme is Road Safety.. and the teacher will discuss about the many scenarios related to it. I was really surprise that that Jayden is able to read the short story about the Road Safety after the lesson and he loves reading it. Maybe at this stage, he memories the story instead of really recognising all the chinese characters. But as what the teacher mentions, as he practices often, soon he will be able to recognise the characters through his daily reading.

Trial Lesson at Berries Chinese Class

Actually I did not have any plan to send him to any Chinese enrichment class before I started to teach him Chinese at home. But after having lesson with him to coach him in Chinese, I really feel like giving up. Our progress is quite slow and I don't really knows how to go about teaching him. I feel that Chinese should be a very fun subject for him to learn and not just forcing him to keep writing Chinese characters and just recognising the words. (This is precisely what I am doing with him now! :(  After hearing rave comments from some mummy about Berries Chinese Class, I decided to give it a try.
