It was a National Day cum Sports day for Edelweiss.
We were really looking forward to the Sports Day today. And the day before the Sports Day (which is on Friday), little boy was still happily explaining and telling me the activities that he will be participating in. But he turn sob-by before he went to sleep on Friday night and kept telling me that he doesn’t want to go to the Sports Day on Saturday. The fact that I was feeling quite snappy and short tempered lately, I did not really talk to him and just told him not to think so much and just sleep first.
Morning comes, he was cranky and sobbing and exclaiming that he doesn’t want to go, this in turn make my temper flare as we were rushing for time. (Actually this is not the first time that he is sobb-by…. recently he had been telling me that he doesn’t want to go swimming or other enrichment lessons. Thus you can imagine all the drama he will perform whenever I drag him to all these lessons. But the fact that I still insists that he attends these classes is because he do enjoys the lessons as what I had talk to the teachers and what they had feedback to me. So in conclusion, we think he is having separation anxiety, reason being that he is feeling insecure as my delivery date drew closer and closer. All along Javier has been very close to me and I guess he do feel that my attention will not be on him anymore once the little one arrives.)
But I can finally heave a sign of relief as we reached the Sports Day Venue. He started reverting back to this bubbly self when he sees his friends.
So I shall bring you the fun and enjoyable times that we had through the pictures that I had snapped today. (smiling)
The Sports Day was held in the Republic polytechnic Agora Hall, this is the first time that I had stepped into this place, it certainly is big and environments is good!
Without further ado, let see the pictures!!!!!
Little boy would be moving on to K1 next year. He has had a great time with these group of friends for the past one year. He would happily tell me any fun or funny happening in class when he came home from school every day. I still remember at the beginning of the year, he was very sad and refused to attend school and told me his best friend is not in his class anymore. Slowly he has come to accept the fact that though he can’t be in the same class with his best friend – Brandon, he still occasionally see him in school. And they do enjoy a quick chat whenever they met. (Brandon has transfer to morning session). Just last week, he told me he miss Brandon, and that Brandon is still his Best…best… best friend!!!! ( that is exactly what he said) ^^
But I am glad to know that he had make another 2 new buddy – Yi heng and Matthias (the 2 tallest boy is his class).
It was a day of excitement and anticipation moment for me. Every time when I see my boys performing for us, a sense of warm would flood over me. I love seeing his performance today. He look so cute and handsome standing on the stage… shaking and dancing. He has done a great job!!!!!
The theme for this year is “He’s able”… believing that there is a special star in every child., as long as we believe in our child and discover this special star in them… they will be ABLE to succeed. We tried to reach there early to get a good seat. But in the end we did not reached there early as I had wanted to, instead we were late. Javier’s ICL class ended abit later than usual and it was pouring so heavily, causing a mild traffic jam.
Today we met up with Javier’s teachers. I am pleased and relieved to hear very good comments on his learning progress and behavior in school. Both teacher mentioned that he has no problem in his work and he learnt things fast. He can grasp what the teacher is saying very fast, thus teachers like to ask him to demonstrate to the class on some occasion, like dong some actions and dancing. ^_^.
His Chinese teacher 郭老师 feedback that his word recognition is very good, (thanks to 四五快读). But this in turn makes the lesson seems boring to him, thus his attention span tends to wonder elsewhere during some lesson time.
But other than that, he is a well-rounded boy, outspoken, participate actively in sports, dance and singing. Frankly I feel so pleased and relieved that he is coping so well in this school now. I would say he has started to enjoy going to school now, I think the main reason is that he likes his 2 teachers. Did I mentioned that Javier’s current English teacher is a 3rd one for this year!!!
He doesn’t really enjoy or like the previous 2 teachers, thus he really really dislike going to school during term 1 and 2. However, I noticed that his whining started to get lesser and lesser as term 3 progress, until presently, he doesn’t says he don’t want or don’t like to go school already. Phew… that’s a really a load off my mind.
It is only when I met up with his English Teacher Mrs Tismo that I started to understand why he love this teacher. She is a really gentle, caring and patient teacher who really dote the kids. Though she has only taught Javier for about a term, she has already won the trust of Javier. I believe that it’s only when the kids really like the teacher and enjoys going to school, that is when the kids will really learn well and progress. I sees a huge improvement in his learning progress as compared to the previous terms.
One thing I like to mentioned is that this teacher has a effective and simple way to teach spelling, that is, she teach the kids how to spell numbers thru singing. Javier loves to sing his number spelling song every day..which goes like this O-N-E 1, T-W-O 2….. (of course there is a rhythm to it) ^_^ In this way he can spell his number effortlessly now.
Project work in integrated into their daily learning from Nursery onwards. These are the work that he did for this term project. He learnt well from this project, eagerly telling me what he did when he came back from school. In conjunction to this project, he took some seeds and we grew them togather which I posted a while back.
The crafts he did:
1) My Garden. I like this a lot, it is so sweet.
Term 2 is coming to an end soon which means that school holiday is approaching!!!! My boys sure are looking forward to it.
I received Javier progress report today and he is coping well in his class. Though he doesn’t seem to look forward to going to school every morning (he prefer to stay at home as what he told me!!) he learns well and seems to like his friends there, thus I have decided to let him complete his Nursery in this kindy before deciding whether to switch him to another kindy for next year.
This term, Javier learns about plants. As part of the plant theme, he took back the seeds he planted in school for us to observe daily. He was pretty excited with the growth of his seed!!!! The first thing he did everyday is to run to his plant to check for the “progress”.
A Chinese Rhyme that Javier learnt in school. It is so entertaining and funny to see him recite.
After our Meet the Parents session at Javier’s Kindy, we went to Kungfu Paradise for our lunch before we sent Jayden for his ICL class.
Met up with Javier’s teachers today. Overall, he is doing well in class, doesn’t give teachers much problem, just the occasionally whining for mummy and wanting to go home to look for mummy.
It was abit of chaos for his class as there were teachers shuffling here and there. Just for term 1, he got 2 English teachers and 2 Chinese teachers. But after his main teachers Mrs Aik explain the situation to me, I do understand that I can’t really blame the school for this. But I hope that the current teachers will remain the same throughout the end of his Nursery class.
As Javier is a rather sensitive child, this teachers shuffling gave him a sense of insecurity, and he was crying for most of the days and doesn’t want to go school (which really give me a painful headache every morning).
English teacher Mrs Aik commented that he can grasp what the teachers is teaching in class and do his work independently. But tracing line wasn’t very good, thus I decided to buy some books for him to practice tracing at home. And surprisingly with my eye power on him, he can trace super well and neat!!!! Beside that there was nothing much said as Mrs Aik has only taught him for 2 weeks, thus it was too short a time to really give much comments.
The excursion for this term is A Trip to Health Promotion Board. Program consists of 1Health Education Session on topic “Bright Smiles Strong Bones”. This term, the school decided to combine the outing for the morning and afternoon Session, thus Parents volunteer are needed for this trip. Initially I had wanted to PV, but on second thought, I couldn’t do so as no one will look after Jayden.
Perhaps this wasn’t a really exciting trip for Javier, thus he never mention anything to me when I picked him up. I did notice that my boys seems to make a lot of friends in school. From Nursery all the way to K2… he really mixed well in school!Ended up I decided to pick Javier from his school and bring him out after the excursion. We went Northpoint for food and shopping, and I ask my mum along too. We had a great time!
Today is the first day of school after CNY, Javier sure have a reason to be excited about it. That is because he will be celebrating his birthday in Edelweiss for the first time with his classmates. When we arrived, we were greeted by his English teacher, who was a friendly lady who chatted with me while we waited for the class to come for the cake cutting.
While we were there, we peeped and looked for Javier in the music room . The children were singing wonderful song with the principal, Mrs Tang playing the paino. Lastly, Javier was asked to stand in front of all the children and a sweet little birthday card was presented to him by his teacher, followed by a birthday song sang to him by all the kids in the school which ended with a “Happy Birthday Javier”. Its so sweet!!!
Though we (especially the boys) enjoy the school holiday a lot, but having to face the boys 24hrs every day for 1 month plus is driving me crazy. They seems to fight most of the time!!!! So I am partially glad that the school holiday is finally over and the boys will be starting their school today.
Though he was still having a little unhappiness the previous day about school reopening, he was super excited when he woke up this morning! He had his lunch, shower and put on his shoe readily and hopping happily downstairs to take his school bus. And he was greeted by the bubbly girlfriend Tiffany when he board the bus. Yeah.. definitely a great start!!!!!
A year has gone by unknowingly. Javier has already been in this school for 1 year and I am glad to see him progressing well and learning well too. I happen to bump into his girlfriend today and got to know she would still be studying in Edelweiss next year, bet my boy is excited about this piece of good new too! :D
I received Javier’s class photo and couldn’t wait to share it here. Hah :.. From here I can finally get a really good look on Javier’s girlfriend whom he has been telling me about. My little boy was very excited when he show me the photo and even introduce all his friends to me. He even asked me why Javier (funny boy who call himself Javier) and Tiffany look sad, because both of them weren’t smiling.
Looking at this picture, its also means that my boy will be graduating from his Pre Nursery class and moving on to his Nursery class next year. He would still be continuing his schooling in Edelweiss as I see that he is doing great and learning well there.
Half year has ended in a flash and Javier brought back his report book today eagerly to show it to me. Basically he is learning well and coping great in class. But as what the teachers had observed, there is still the need to improve on his attention span. Hopefully his attention span will get better as he progress.
It’s been a while and I finally uploaded the video of my boys performance. :D Enjoy!
Jayden’s Graduation Performance
Javier's School Concert
It was a long wait, but its finally here!!! The 4th Annual Graduation Concert 2011. We have been so looking forward to Javier’s first performance concert. Guess he was pretty looking forward to it too and would perform to entertain me at home as and when he likes it. :D
I would like to give my boy a real big pat for giving us such a great show this afternoon!!!! I was still a tad worried that he might suffer stage fright since this was his first, but I guess the worry is uncalled for.
Anxious me took some time to transform my boy into a stylo malo ‘man’ today. This is my boy with his makeup and styled hair, though he was still feeling cranky earlier on and said that he doesn’t want to go perform today.. but he was feeling pretty excited when he is all done up and ready to charge to school.
