Learning Multiplication

I decided to do some Maths learning with Javier since he isn’t going to school today. We explore Multiplication, he has memorized up to x6 time table currently. I wanted him to learn the theory behind the time table instead of blindly memorizing it.

Learning Maths

Sometimes back, I have introduce Addition to Javier. However at that time, I am not too sure if he really understand the concept which I am explaining to. Few days back, I got back on this topic with him again, and this time I am quite sure he knew it and I have been doing simple addition with him as and when we are free and he managed to get it correct. Open-mouthed smile

Writing Numbers…

Recently, Javier has started skipping his afternoon nap when he came back from school. He would rather choose to do some works or read books over sleep. Actually if he doesn’t get too cranky, I am fine with him skipping his nap. :D Reason being that if he takes his nap, he will tend to nap until 7plus.. and that is I got to drag him out of bed at 7plus, or else sleeping past 8pm is an effortless task for him :(

And I guess you can predict what will happen later on….. He is so alert and energetic, so ended up, he will only sleep in the wee hours at 2am every night which is really driving me crazy!!!!!

Ok.. back to our topic~  previously I had mentioned in my post that I had been doing some writing practices with him on alphabets, but we never touched on numbers. So I was a bit surprised that he could write numbers so well now when he was doing his Maths activity book today.

Just some work

During his free time, he likes to dig out books and ask me whether he can do it. Currently, we are taking a slow pace for him to learn writing his alphabets. He is much more confident in his writing now. When he is in a pretty good mood, he loves to scribble some letters and show it to me.

Having Fun with Coins

While waiting for our food, Jayden was playing with the coins on the table. So D decided to have some counting game with him. D would say he wants “$1.20” and Jayden would pick out the coins needed to make up the amount and show it to D. I was quite surprise he is pretty good in it now.

Learn to Count

As I mentioned in the earlier post, Javier like to rummage through my messy study-room, he happens to dig out this magnetic number activity book. He ran to me eagerly showing me the gem that he had found.

This book was bought long ago at the books warehouse sale which is a steal for only $10.

Having fun with plastic fruits

It seems fun to Javier as he likes to play with these rubber fruits anytime when it comes into his mind.

Since he is happily playing with it, I decided to do some patterning with him. I was quite surprise he is quite good in it now as compared to the last time we did this. :D Simple activity like this can keep him occupied for close to 45 minutes.

Hundred Board

Sometime back, we started on this hundred board, but half way through it, this activity was shelve for a few months. Until I decided to let Javier start it again this week. He was in the mood to do it for these 2 days, thus we completed it in 2 days! :D

Odd or Even???

I try to revise odd and even with Javier as and when we are free. While browsing through the website, I find that this super teacher worksheets website really have a wide selection of printable which are not bad. I printed this worksheet for Javier which he not only can revise on his odd and even number but can also brushed up on his rote counting skill.

He has the problem (or habit) to miss counting at times, thus I tried to let him count as much as possible to correct this problem. I taught him to group the objects into pair and if there is a one remaining with no ‘friend’  means it is an odd number. I am not sure whether this is a good way to teach him odd and even, but at least at this stage it works well for him.

Missing Numbers????

I happened to saw this cute worksheet on filling in the missing numbers and decided to print it for Javier, but this seems to be a tat too simple for him. :P

He is still not very good in writing yet, and he wasn’t in the mood to try writing also,  thus I need to write the numbers for him.

Telling time - Revision

We did a simple revision on time reading using a worksheet printed here and also making use of our all time favourite and reliable hippo clock. :)
I will get Javier to read the time and adjust to the stated time in the worksheet using the hippo clock before drawing the hands on the clock. He can draw pretty decent hands but I need to help him to draw the “V” on the hands.

Same or Different

Spotting the difference is not one of Javier’s strong area. Normally I got to give him alot of hints in order for him to spot it. Thus I try to do more of this type of worksheet to improve his observation skill.

Addition with Fish

We did some addition revision today using our fishing toy. Javier would fish the number of fishes as shown on the number at the top of the paper. Then add them togather and put the answer himself.

We went fishing!!!

This activity is mainly for the revision of the words or numbers that Javier had learnt recently.I printed many fishes from various colour paper and spent some time cutting all of it. :P and Jayden was very helpful to insert the paper clips to all the fishes for me this afternoon. :D

Javier was so excited when he saw the fishing rod with all the fishes and couldn’t wait to start fishing.

Learning about sizes

A very simple activity that need no preparation.

Adding Pot of gold

Jayden is pretty good in doing 2 digit addition and subtraction. We did some addition using coins to prepare him for his Primary school life next year.

Telling time by half hr

Javier is pretty good in telling time by hr, so I decided to take a step further and teach him to tell time by half hr. He seems to get the concept already, but at times he still get a little confuse. I guess he need to practice more. :D

Straw patterning

We did some patterning using the colourful straw. As mentioned in my earlier post, Javier is still not very good in recognizing pattern. Thus I would try to do fun activities with him to practice his patterning. We started with simple pattern like ABAB… then proceed to ABCABC…

Counting by 10s

Feeling kinda tired and lazy to go any place today. I did some activity with my boys at home instead. A while ago, we read a book ‘Speed Speed Centipede’ which teaches about counting by 10’s. My boys loved this book, so today I did this block stacking by 10’s activity with Javier. He enjoyed and love doing it. The story begins… the truck carried a load full of blocks and unloaded in front Javier. So we begin our stacking activity.
