Berries Progress Report

Jayden received his Berries progress report last week. He is doing fine in most of the category listed except for his Hanyu Pinyu which needs more practice. The comments which the teacher wrote is not new to me…. :P as this is what most of his teachers had been telling me since he started attending school. :(

Reading Granny Grandy’s Umbrella

This is the 2nd book that we read from the Red train series. This is a good series of book to teach kids to reach; with simple sentences and cute illustration. Beside reading the book, Javier also like to discuss with my what he sees in the pictures… He likes to ask me “why is granny Grandy angry with the thief?” :D

My cute little Nephew

He is such a cute little darling. The feeling of holding a newborn seem so strange to me now… but I loved it! Really can’t wait to carry him again!!! Even my boys were so excited seeing the arrival of this little Didi.. they can’t wait to dash to the hospital yesterday night upon hearing their 姑姑 had given birth. :D

We went for our simple traditional buffet at the coffee house before we start our day.

Short Getaway to Desaru! – Day 1

It was an impromtu decision to go for to Desaru. Actually after reading about this place from a blog, I was thinking it might be fun and a nice place to bring my boys to for a short recharge on one of these day before the school reopen. However the bad causeway jam was making me having second thoughts. It was until D says “let’s book the resort and go” on Sunday, which make us go ahead for this trip.  Thus…we only booked the accommodation a day before the trip, and quite luckily, we were able to book a room for us. And so off we go for our trip on Monday.

It only took us 1.5hr to reach Desaru using the E22 Senai/Desaru expressway. :D

BackFlip by Javier

Javier doing a backflip or is it headflip?? :D Nevertheless its quite a enjoyment seeing him flipping again and again.

Maths Revision

I’m quite guilty in that I did not really do much things with my boys during the school holiday, beside play and more play, we only did a Tiger Lapbook. But I managed to revise some Maths revision with Javier when we are free.

Self feed

I am happy to see that  Javier is more willing to self feed himself now. Although during some meal time for him is still like battle-time for us, nevertheless, this is a huge improvement that I seen.

PaPa’s Day

Although we did not celebrate Father’s Day, but I would still like to wish all Daddy a Happy Father’s Day!!!!! :D And we will be going for a short getaway to Desaru for a 3D2N tomorrow. Yippee….

Fun time at JB Jusco

Today D took half day leave to drive us to Jayden art class. And after the class, we decided to make a last minute shopping and makan trip to JB. Luckily the traffic was very smooth today and we reached our destination quite fast.

We went to Popular to shop for some books, and after which we decided on Pizza Hut for our early dinner. And what comes after dinner…. of course some play time at the indoor playground in Jusco shopping mall. So D brought them to the playground, while I shop for the boys clothes. Over here, the pajamas is really cheap (about Sing $8~$10), so needless to say, I grab 2 set for Jayden and 1 set for Javier, and the boys love the chungginton set which I bought for both of them. :D

June holiday Art Workshop

I signed up a holiday art class for Jayden from 15-17 June. I thought it would be great to let Jayden learn to draw and paint independently with the use of various art materials; since I observed that he do have the interest to draw at home.

We took back the 3 art pieces which he did for the past 3 days. The lesson proceed with the teacher explaining the theme of the drawing for that day, then proceed to show the kids how to draw. From there on, it is up to the kids to draw the picture themselves and decide for themselves the colour for the painting. The colourful Slide

Scratch Art

I bought back some Scratch Art from The Art Pencil where Jayden had his art classes. The kids were very keen to do it upon seeing it.

It is not too difficult to do it. There is a wooden stylus provided to scratch off coating the and expose the beautiful surface underneath.

Fun Fun time at the playground!!!!

My niece Glenda stayed over at our place yesterday. My boys were so thrilled to have her with us. It was so cute to see that both of them wanted to sleep togather with her. :D

And of course playground time is a must with so many kids gathered togather. They even make a date with Bing Heng to come over the playground at 5.30pm for a get-togather.

Let’s Play @ Changi

I feel lazy… really lazy to go any place. It was D who suggested to go Changi Airport since our last visit there was quite long ago. It was then that I remembered seeing a blogger mentioned that there is a Giant Garden Inflatable for the boys to bounce!!! :D And I’m sure that my boys would love it!!! :D

Macaroni Soup

dinner09 June I cooked a simple dinner for both my boy as me and D usually dine out after we send Jayden to his Berries Class on Thursday. I was pretty pleased with the comments I received for today dinner. Both of them keep saying it tastes very good and cheeky Javier keep showing us the ‘thumb up sign’ and saying “ ummmm… this is goood!!!!!”

Reading “My Sandwich”

As mentioned in my earlier post, I have started Javier on the red train readers. He can read our 1st book in this series “My Sandwich” by himself. He can’t recognize all the words yet, but with the help of the illustration, he could read the book easily.

Play-doh activities

I don’t like play-doh at all!! but my boys love it!!!!! :( However, given the vast benefit in playing with the play-doh, I decided to go with my boys and let them play with it, but not very very often.. :P

Some benefits are:

  • development of fine motor skills
  • stimulates sense of touch
  • development of finger/hand strength
  • development of eye-hand coordination skills

  • Match it!

I bought this puzzle from MotherCare quite sometime back. Since I started teaching Javier about Opposite a few weeks ago, he is more keen to do this puzzle now.

Winter Melon, Woodear & Pork Ribs Soup

I have been goggling for new recipes to try for our lunch and dinner, instead of cooking the same food all the time for my family. I came across this easy to prepare soup which looks nutritious. Recently, I would cooked a big pot of soup, and used partial of the soup base for cooking rice instead of water so that the boys will get the most of the nutrition from the soup. (and I realized the rice taste sweeter and smoother this way)

    Pumpkin Rice

This is a very healthy, delicious and easy dish to prepare when I am feeling lazy to cook. Actually Jayden loves it, he had been wanting me to cook it for him. But after the failed attempt about 1yr ago, I was quite reluctant to cook it. But yesterday I managed to get the tips to cooking a simply marvelous, delicious pumpkin rice. And I was very keen to try it out today and I am glad that my boys love it, and they finished their meal within 15 minutes.

    My boys’ Buddy

My boys love going over to my neighbor's house to play. Every now and then, they would pester me to let them go over which I rejected them most of the time. Frankly, I am blessed to have very friendly neighbors, they dote on my boys and I do loved chatting with them too.

It’s always very difficult to drag my boys home once they go over! :P

    Mini-Celebration

After Jayden Taekwondo Grading, we went to Northpoint Sakae Sushi for a mini-celebration for passing his grading test… just the 2 of us. :D

    Taekwondo Yellow Belt Grading

It was such a bad weather since early in the morning. We were half drenched when we reached Queenstown CC for the grading. Jayden is always very confident when it comes to his his taekwondo grading, and told me not to worry and said that he would pass. :P Seems that I am more nervous than him.

Although he know his stunts well, but I would prefer if he would do it more smartly and slowly rather than hurrying through the whole process. (As you can see in the video, he does it really fast… :(

Practicing and monkey-ing around while waiting for the grading to start.

    It’s playground time

With D not around for the past 1 week, I gotta handle my 2 very… super… active boys alone. *+* It tends to drive me crazy on some days!!!! So I’d rather bring them for outdoor play, shopping trip, library trip…  just about any place that can keep my boys occupied and of course I do hope that all these activities will burnt off their energy and make them sleep early. :P

After our Pizza dinner tonight (I was feeling lazy to cook for the 3 of us, thus decided to order pizza for our dinner), we happily set off for the playground. It is quite fun to see them play togather, as both of them is forever up to their mischief and vying to outdo each other.

    Books for our home learning

I have been looking for books suitable for Javier for our home learning. I find that these books are just suitable for him. I have started the red train readers for Javier’s Chinese home learning beside the 四五快读。

Whereas for English reading, I have stop the Peter and Jane series with him, as he feel so stress whenever he sees me take the book out for our alternate day learning. (I don’t want to force him to read, but would like our daily reading to be enjoyable instead) So we have started our new English learning with the red train readers (for sight words) and Progressive Phonics (for phonetic words). And I am glad to say that this works well for the both of us.

This is the Red Train Readers.

Since he can recognise some words now, reading prove to be more exciting for him now. As I read books to him, whenever he sees words which he knew, he would point it out and read it out to me. :D

    Thomas & Friends Live

My boys love Thomas and Friends, they were kinda excited when I told them that I would be bringing them to watch a musical show at Jurong Point today. Although there wasn’t really much performance by Thomas the engine, but the boys have a fun time just singing along with the the Fat Controller and the pretty lady. Nevertheless, all the kids squealed with delight when Thomas drive out from the doorway and greeted the kids! :D

My boys managed to take a picture with the Fat Controller and Thomas. Bravo for Javier who managed to master his courage to go up on stage without mummy to take this shot.

    Vroom Vroom Cars Patterning

    image

I came to know about this book “Beep Beep, Vroom Vroom” from myplayschool.net. And I thought it would be a fun book to read about patterning.

And it was such a hit with the boys, that I printed the printable activities from here a few days after we read the book.

We went through the patterning that was shown in the books and teach Javier about sorting.

    Learning and sorting Money

I chanced upon this Money activity here, where it suggested the activities using coins.
    Math: Teaching Biggest & Smallest

Take each of the denomination (5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents) and trace them on a paper from the smallest to the biggest. Give the coins to your child and have him match them according to the sizes. This will help him to visually discriminate the varying sizes. As soon as he is done, point to the biggest coin (50 cents) and tell him 'This is the BIGGEST coin'. Do the same with the smallest coin.
