My boys are sick!!!!

3 days ago, Jayden started running a high fever in school, he was still ok when I sent him to school in the afternoon. But at 4.30pm, he school rang me up and told me to fetch him back from school telling me that he is having a fever 38.5 degree. So I brought him home and fed him some medicine and sent him to rest and the same time to monitor his condition. That night, at 10pm, the little one also started running a high fever-  and my nightmare begin….. the temperature was shooting high high as the night progress. I couldn’t sleep and cannot sleep due to the worrying. For the whole night I was busy feeding them medicine and sponging them to try to bring down the temperature.

The next day, Jayden was much better and his fever was under control. But little one was still running a very high fever (the highest it goes was 40.4 degree) I quickly rushed him to the clinic. After checking him, the doctor told me that his tonsil was swollen and thus this maybe the causes for his fever. So fever medicine and anit-biotics was prescribed. And when we went back, the war started again… the refused to drink the medicine or water, So I had to force him to take. Sad smile For the past 2 days, he hardly eat any food and I never suspected it to be other causes until….

On Thursday, Javier complain of mouth pain, thus I used the torch light to see the condition of his tonsil which I then spotted a few white spots near his throats and 2 on his lips. And I was thinking this looks like hfmd. Thus I quickly brought him to the clinic (I decided to go to another clinic) to again to have him checked. And it is indeed HFMD.

It is really heart pain to see them see them in pain. But for Jayden he doesn’t really complain of any pain thus I never suspected that he have hfmd. But for Javier, it was a totally different story, he was whining for the past 2 days and couldn’t eat and cannot sleep well. But I am glad that they are on the road to recovery now. Javier is started to eat again though still not a lot and of course he is back to his mischievous self again.

But as you can see from the below picture, he was really reluctant to take pictures. Thus he always gave me the sulky look when I told him to pose for the camera. Open-mouthed smile (but I was lucky to capture a few good shots ^^)

Javier’s first Dental Appointment

He is four years old, I feel it is the right time to bring him for his 1st dental checkup, especially this boy got a sweet tooth. Well, bad mummy did not really get him prepared for this trip. I only told them about the dental checkup the day before. Sad smile Luckily both of them take in the news calmly, and actually looking forward to visit Dr Lim again. ^^

The day finally arrived…. Javier was feeling pretty nervous and gave me a ‘forced’ smile.

Speech Therapy Session 1

Javier had his first Speech Therapy session today. We had a pleasant visit today, the waiting time was very short, and the staffs were really helpful and friendly.

During the short wait, Javier kept himself occupied with the activities on the wall

After the Surgery….

A week have passed since his Released Tongue Tied Surgery. He is coping and recovering well from it, beside telling me that he feels painful on the first 2 days of the surgery, he hasn’t feel any discomfort from then on.

Some noticeable differences which we have observed recently are, he talk much more than before, basically he is yakking non-stop every day. Sad smile

Secondly, he can chew food faster which means that he can finish his meal quicker. And he seems to be much more mischievous than before….

The Big day

Tomorrow Javier would be going for his tongue tied operation (he wasn’t feeling well during the last schedule date, thus the surgery was postpone to 20 Dec 2011).  After talking to him for these past few days, he seems to understand and told me he is ok and would go for the op tomorrow…. though he would sometimes give me a rather sad face when he think of it. He would talk to me and ask me from time to time how is the operation would be like, ‘which part of the tongue that the doctor would ‘cut’.. (that’s the word he used. )

Although its only a very minor operation, I do feel anxious and nervous as the clock tick by. Hope that all would go well for tomorrow operation. Praying hard for my boy.

Tongue Tie

Tongue tied is a term used to describe someone who is  unable to extend his tongue fully, or has a heart shaped appearance on the tip when sticking out the tongue. It is a condition that is caused by a short frenum that restricts tongue movement. For example, some people have difficulty licking around their lips or raising the tongue tip inside the mouth. This may affect speech to a certain extent and also cause some discomfort.

More information about Tongue Tie can be found here.

We have noticed that Javier has some problem sticking out his tongue fully and at the same time having a heart shape at the tip quite sometime ago. And was contemplating whether to bring him for some surgery to rectify this.  Until I met a friend whose kid has the same problem and has undergo the surgery, and talking much better now(he can’t really talk although he is coming to 2yo before the surgery) and seeming a much happier boy who yak none stop now.

Thus I decided to bring Javier to a GP in Admiralty whom my friend recommended me for some advice. After looking at Javier’s tongue, she confirmed that he is indeed tongue tie but not so serious as as to affect his speech (as she noticed that he can talk quite well) and had no problem with eating issues. But I mentioned to her that I noticed he has problem with words which sound like d, l. For example, he can’t say play, please clearly, from what I heard it sound like “pray” or “prease”.

He’s sick!

He’s tired.. I’m tired! We are both tired due to the sleep deprived!!! Javier was feverish throughout the night and coughing very badly, I feel so heartpain to see him waking up numerous time due to the bad cough and vomited twice. As his fever was quite high, I gotta wake him up in the middle of the night to feed him the medicine, and luckily he was cooperative and did not fuss when I wake up.

Looking sulky when I told him that he won’t be able to go to the excursion.

As predicted, he was disappointed and unhappy that he is going to miss the excursion. He was even throwing a mild temper and we had a rather funny conversation.

Jayden 1st Dental Experience

After dily daly for quite sometimes, we finally brought Jayden for his 1st dental appointment today. I was rather worried that he would be scared. But as it turn out my worry was undue for!! He felt in love with this friendly dentist after today. He even ask me when are we going to visit him again. :)

He was so gentle and patient with Jayden. He explained all the things he is going to use on him slowly and patiently and even read a book about ‘Timmy visit the dentist” to Jayden. Jayden was so proud of himself and told us that Dr friendly praised him for being such a good boy and has taken good care of his teeth. :P

Titi Eco Farm Papaya & Lemon Juice

I was introduced to this Papaya & Lemon Juice some time ago by 1 of my friend. It is really good for treating constipation. I did not really see the results upon drinking. However after Javier consumed half a bottle, I started to see a noticeably change in his bowel. He started to poo every 1-2 days, and the poo is no longer as hard as before.

From the initial stage that I gotta force him to drink to now that he is loving this drink. Every time when I pass him this cup of juice, he will say it is orange juice and gulp down at one go. :D

A Super tough week

The past 1 week was a really difficult one for us. Last Wednesday, Javier suddenly developed a very high fever of 39.9 degree in the middle of the night when he awoken a told me he got a tummy ache. When I was massaging his tummy, I noticed extreme hotness and quickly take his temperature, and was shock to discover he was running such high fever. So I give him Brufen to bring down the temperature, but he was the least cooperative, he was shouting, hiding from me and covering his mouth, and just refuse to take it. Finally with the help of D, we managed to feed him. Sad smile

The next day I brought him to see the doctor, as his temperature is still very high after taking the medicine.  He was in such a sorry state with the constant tearing, mucus flowing down and drooling, it really pained us to see him like that.

A very bad fall

Jayden got a very bad fall today. He was playing catching with the kids and accidentally trip on a chair, fell and knocked onto the leg of a wooden high chair. The bruise was quite bad and get really swollen by late afternoon. After applying “Zambak” the miracle cure for bruise, swollen cream… it still doesn’t get better. So we decided to skip the Taekwondo class and bring him to see a doctor.

Luckily, the doctor mentioned that it is just a superficial wound and would get better in a few days. Nothing was prescribed by the doctor to bring down the swollen, so in the mean time, I would still apply “Zambak” on the “ba lu ku”.

Eu Yan Sang Premium Raw Honey

Constipation is a problem that has been bugging Javier for a very long time. As he don’t like to eat fruits or doesn’t eat much vegetables and worst still doesn’t drink alot of water….getting constipated is so common for him. Every time when I sees him pass motion, I really feel like crying with him. Many a time I can only hug him while he sits on his potty to poo to give him some “support’ as what he calls it.

But I am glad to say that I have managed to find a remedy to relief Javier of this constipation problem.
