Books that Jayden read -December

This is a way way overdue post which I had been too lazy to post. These are the books that Jayden had read in December. Recently I had gotten some feedback from his enrichment teacher that Jayden is performing not so well in listening and interpreting story plot. Perhaps from what his teacher suggest, I should read more books to him instead of getting him to read to me (I do read to him, but not as diligently as before…. after he can read quite well).

Well, after reading the books, I feel that these are the few books worth mentioning here and also some of it are Jayden’s favourite.

The very busy Spider by Eric Carle
It's about a spider who blows in, lands on a fence post, and spends the entire day building a web. She keeps working as various animals tempt her to do other things. At the end of the day, she catches a fly in her web and then falls asleep, tuckered out from her busy day. While reading the book, my boys like to spot and tell me where the the buzzing fly is.

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
The story is about a boy named Max who puts on a wolf suit and makes lots of mischief. He is then sent to his room without any supper. He then dreams of going to where the wild things are. Something happens there and he decides that he wants to go home to where someone loves him the best and to the things that smell good to eat. He goes back home and supper is waiting for him in his room….He finds that, by leaving his supper for him, his mother still loves him.

The Troll by Julia Donaldson
The Troll longs for a goat - but has to make do with fish for supper instead. Meanwhile, Hank Chief and his pirate crew are digging for treasure - but it seems they've sailed to the wrong island. Again….. It is a rather fun story to read.

We love Julia Donaldson .. and she is one of the UK's most popular children's authors, most famous for THE GRUFFALO and its sequel THE GRUFFALO'S CHILD.

  1. Choon Yen, can read well doesn't mean they understand the plot.

When reading, even is he is reading, you need to discuss the illustration with him.

We always question Yvette as she read. (Even with good illustration, they might not understand too.)

    My 2 cents!

  2. Ya, i also ask him questions as he read along to make sure he undersrand the plot. but i guess it is still not enough. and i discuss the story with him too. so the teacher wants me to stop getting him to read to me, instead i would read books to him only.

  3. Choon Yen,

If you have done all necessary, then perhaps you need to borrow books associated to the same topic. Sometimes teachers do test them out of the scope.

I will personally feel dont let him stop reading to you. There must be one or two books he will be reading to you daily and you will read another one or two to him.

    You are doing great.
