Letter A (Lesson 3)

Today we continue our Lesson on A. I try to include more hands on activity for Javier as I realise he is more interest in doing craft.

I put glue on the whole area of the A. Then Javier and I put the red beans on top of the glue area to form the A shape. Javier like this activity alot, as he keep pouring the red beans on it. I think it looks like bee hive in one of the photo.

The red bean activity

Next, I explain to him about the life cycle of an apple, I was expecting him to be uninterested in this. But surprisingly he sat and listen to me explain the life cycle wor. I am not sure whether he understood what I am trying to tell him, as I find it is abit too difficult for him to understand now. But I am glad he is interested in listening to my boring theory lah.
The picture showing the life cycle of an apple
Look at the contented expression when I talking about the life cycle of the apple
Next, I let him colour the picture of an apple, after colouring for a while, he start to fool around. Putting the marker cap inside his mouth.
After the colouring, I show him the pictures of the individual objects which starts with A. He quickly walked into the room where I kept my craft and told me he want to get something. I am not sure what he intend to get. So I just waited for him to come back. I never expected him to get the 'suprise box' which I show him yesterday. He was trying to relate the stuffs inside the box with the pictures which I was showing him. (Kids are really creative, I never thought of doing this with him, he think a step further than mummy)

He puts the felf cloth apple on the picture of the 'apple'

Putting the toy airplane on top of the picture of the 'airplane'

The toy alligator with the picture of the alligator.

Next we have craft session. Today we are doing a apple tree craft. For this craft, we need construction paper, green paint, paint brush and 6 red pom poms.
I drew a tree on the construction paper and prepare the green paint for the painting of the tree.

Javier painting the green leaf for the tree.
Using a black marker to colour the stem of the tree.

We let the green paint dry put before we glue the pom pom onto it. The red pom pom is like the apple on the trees.

The last activity before Javier nap is the stamping of the apple. He practically stamp the apple all over the place. Luckily I covered the whole table with paper, so that I don't have to worry about him stamping paint all over the table.
His apple stamping activity.

Of course, so much talking about apples, I got to have a tasting session of the apples for Javier. He look so happy and enjoying his apple alot.

We also read a book 'Snip Snap' by Maria Bergman. When I first read this book to Javier, he was not interested at all. He would run away when I have only started a few pages. But today, he was able to sit beside me and let me finish the whole book.

I find that this book is probably a bit too long for very young children or very active ones. But Jayden enjoyed this story alot, he ask me to read it to him quite a few times.

The activity went well today. Javier enjoyed most of the activity which I have planned for him.

Dinner at Ajisen Ramen IMM

Dinner with 2 little monkey really not a easy thing. Javier refuse to sit in the highchair, keep saying want to come down. I have to entertain him and coax him with all sort of excuses to keep him inside. While for the elder monkey.. keep climbing over to the table behind to play with his Ben 10 toys, not very interested in the food. Hiaz... it took us almost 1hr to finish our dinner. After which, I went to fox shop to shop for some clothes for my boys, but not much nice design now. I only managed to get one pants for Javier. Next I went to Kidsmall to buy 2 sets of new pyjamas for my boys for the new year. Cos wearing new pyjamas on the eve of chinese new year marks a brand new beginning for the coming year, and hope that the YEAR of the TIGER would be a smooth sailing year for them also. Of course, for me and daddy also lah!!!

A nice photo of me and my 2 boys, as it it really difficult to take a good picture with the 2 of them looking into the camera.
Bubbly Javier

Mummy & Bubble Fish Jayden

A new look for Jayden, instead of being cheeky today, he want to look like a bubble fish

Our food is here.

Javier is trying out the sushi

He is very adventurous in trying out new food. Whenever he sees a new dish, he would want to try it out.

It was a nice dinner, except that the 2 naughty monkey running here and there. But life without them would feel so empty for us. So although we got to run and shout at them, we really enjoy it and loving every bit of our time togather.

Letter A (Lesson 2)

We have our 2nd lesson. The kids have a really fun time. Today I would focus more on Alligator, thus most of the materials which I have prepared would be alligator related.

First we started with the painting of letter A using glitter glue. Both my boys really like this one.

Initially I started the painting first to show Javier how to use the glue, he got the hang of it pretty fast and soon he was enjoying himself .

Next, I read a Alligator poem to them, but Javier was not very keen. He only begin to show interest when I pass him the colour pencil for him to colour the alligator. But he is not really colouring lah,, just drawing lines on the paper. But at least he is practising his hand muscle, Still not too bad.

This picture of Javier is so cute. I asked him to close his eye first, cos I am going to show him a surprise box. He was so obedient, he close his eyes immediately and so tight somemore.. hehe.

Tada.... I show him the box with all the objects that start with letter A: Alien, airplane, apple and alligator. I called out a name of the picture, he will then point it to me. He got it all right!!! Well done wor!!
Next is the craft on the Alligator. Javier is much more interested in pasting the teeths and the eyes. He keep asking me to give him somemore eyes to paste. Which I then explain to him, alligator only have 2 eyes, so he cannot paste so many eyes on the alligator. Lucky he accept my explaination and did not fuss when I din pass him the eyes.
But mummy very blur lah... realise the mistake only after the craft is completed. I should have cut out the letter A before pasting the eyes and the teeths. But never mind lah, at least he enjoy the craft alot.
Maths time!!! I teach them what is Big and Small. Obviously Javier prefer the BIG ONE. :)

Jayden only start to join us from this activity onwards. Both the boys help to paste the alligator body parts togather.

The finished project.

Next.. Time for some exercise. Mummy went to prepare the paint for the next activity while daddy play with them.
Daddy shout a command, and the boys would have to follow. For example, raise your hand, the boys would have to quickly raise their hand. The boys was so happy while playing, they keep giggling while doing the command.
"Raising their leg and hand"

After the shouting command game, we are going to start our stamping game. This is one of the most fun activity for today.

I cut out some some letter A using sponge for them to stamp on paper.
Dipping the sponge into the paint. Although it can be quite messy, but the kids like it, especially Javier.
wa.. using the sponge too leh chey liao.. might as well use my 2 hands faster...
Jayden is quite scared of mess, he is very careful while doing the painting work. He don't want to dip his hand inside the paint like Javier.
Look at the big patch of paint that Javier make..
Jayden painting.
Javier painting with his 2 hand prints on it.
The 2nd last activity for today is playing playdough. Playdough is good for training the hand muscle.
First, I use the playdough to make into the letter A to show Javier. But he where got time to see, he can't wait to start playing with the dough liao.
Squashing and moulding......
I think they play with the dough for almost 1hour. So mummy left them to play with it themselves while I went to cook their lunch.
Lastly, we read a nice simple story " The lady with the alligator purse". It is a silly story with catchy rhymes. But Jayden like it alot and I think I have read this story to him for almost 6times. For Javier, he was ok with the story.

I am really glad the boys show so much ethusiasim in the activity which I have planned for them.

Peachy Rainbow Cake

Actually I intend to bake this cake on Javier actual birthday for just our own celebration. But that day we just celebrate his bday in school and ate a cake. So a bit sick of eating cake for that day. So I delay the cake making until today. The reason why my cake is called 'Peachy Rainbow cake' is due to the fact that the kids like the m&m chocolates and daddy and me like the peach. So all put togather, we get the Peachy Rainbow cake.. :)

When Javier saw the cake, he keep saying he want to eat 'cake', but being his mummy, I know what he thinking lah! He is eyeing on those chocolate.... definetly not the cake he is interested in. But my dear little Jayden like the cake alot.

After baking the cake, we send Jayden to school. I din even have time to take out the cake to let it cool on the rack, cos we are running late.

Homeschooling Lesson 1 (Letter A)

Today is the first lesson of our homeschooling. We are doing Letter A for this week. We have a fun lesson today consisting of crafts, songs, maths sorting and story telling.

First we started off, by introducing A to Javier, but Jayden was also interested with the lesson. So the 2 boys have the activity today. Of course Jayden knows his letter so well already.. Whenever I ask Javier a question, he will say the answer immediately. :

Javier showing the letter to daddy

Next we have our apple craft. We need glue and some red, white and green construction papers. I have already cut the apple and leaves the day before to save time.

This is the most interesting activity for them for today. They really enjoyed it alot. Especially when I ask them to use their finger to touch the ink pad to stamp the seed on the apple core. Although it is very messy, but to them it is really fun.

The 2 apples are done by the boys. I would say both of them did a great job. Jayden did the craft himself, whereas for Javier, I only offer him minimal help.

After the craft, we sing a song about apples and ants

Next, we continue with our maths activity, which I taught them the different size.

To end our lesson, we read a story on 'Apple Farmer Annie'

The pictures are colorful and bold. The story are simple yet provide enough detail. For example, there are all kinds of apples listed, different colors of apples, types of kitchen utensils. It also shows the sequence of events like growing, harvesting, preparing, selling, etc.
There are three recipes included in the back of the book, which we can try it out.
Listening to mummy read the story, but Javier was not very interested in the story. Half way through, he walk away. So I carry him on my nap to contine the story. But Jayden like the story alot. He make me read it over and over again.
