Books That Jayden Read – July

Recently the books which Jayden  attempt to read himself is much more as compared to the last few months. Now we have develop a habit of bringing a book to read while we wait for Jayden’s school bus to pick him up.

A book for Bramble by Lynne Garner This is a very touching story of a friendship between a mouse and a hedgehog (Bramble). As Bramble need to hibernate during the winter time, the mouse won’t be able to see him for a long time. He missed Bramble so much and long to talk to him. And so in order to let Bramble knows what he did during the whole of winter, he decide to write a book for Bramble…..

Barry the Fish with Fingers by Sue Hendra  Life under the sea can be as dull as dishwater, until Barry arrives, that is. See, Barry is no ordinary fish—he's a fish with fingers! And fingers mean finger puppets, finger painting, knitting, counting to ten, tickling, and all sorts of fun things. It isn't long before all of the other fish want fingers, too. Life under the sea will never be the same again. . . .

Curious George Series of Book by Margret & H.A.Rey Jayden loves this series of book about Curious George the monkey. The plots are interesting, with twists and turns, once we start reading, we just could not stop until the end. :)

Four Hens and a Rooster by Lena and Olof Landstrom The hens contain their rooster's bullying tendancies. And one fine day the hens feel that they can no longer tolerate the unreasonable demanding rooster anymore, so they attend a women's empowerment workshop to give them the skills they need. Balance is restored and harmony prevails.

In a way, the morale of this story tells us family should be run in a respectable manner, instead of one person domineering the decision of all.

Julius The Baby of the world by Kevin Henkes After reading the vast of great comment for this book, I have been wanting to get this book for Jayden to read.

This story is about Lilly, like many children, finds her baby brother doesn't live up to the pre-birth hype. He steals attention from her is what he does. This book would be a good thing for an older child who could understand that the behavior described in the book might be meant as something funny and not right to do.

While Jayden read it, he might find it funny that Lily is singing the wrong order of ABC’s and 123’ to his brother, so I will try to prompt him to think whether it is right or wrong to do so or not and then explain it to him.

Ruby and Leonard and the Great Big Surprise by Judith Rossell Ah… this story is definitely chosen by me! Reason being that it is a cupcake related story.

One day, Leonard had an idea. He whispered his plan to Ruby. "But it’s a surprise," he said. "So we can’t tell the others?" asked Ruby. "That’s right," said Leonard.

In this delightful story of friendship, Leonard wants to make a birthday cake for Ruby, but finds he can’t do it without enlisting Ruby’s help. So he adopts a clever ploy, only to find that it is he who gets the biggest surprise of all! This cute-as-pie picture book includes a delicious cupcake recipe

That Pesky Dragon by Julie SykesThe book by this author is fast becoming one of my favorite now. Her story is simple for Jayden to read, he can read most of the book by this author himself with minimal help from me. The great story has also got very nice illustrations which can grab the kids’ attention.

“There’s a dragon on the farm - you can hear its roar”. all the animals are scared. all the adults are annoyed. and izzie is - secretly pleased. And of course, it turns out 'that pesky dragon' is not a scary dragon, but a small, scared, dragon trapped in the well. A great story about a brave girl who faces her fears and finds a friend.

The Sleepover by Julie Sykes Another book by Julie Sykes! This is a very simple story about a little Monkey and his friends planning for a sleepover. Mummy Monkey has made some hammocks for them high up in the trees, but Little Elephant can't get up into his hammock. He is just too big. Luckily they find a sleeping place they all like.

The Three Horrid Little Pigs by Liz PichonActually I borrowed this book for our homeschooling Letter P.. oink Pig!!! But Jayden was so in love with this book after hearing me read to them once. He likes to take this book and read it himself. But be warned, this is not a classic story of the “The three little pigs”. :) There is a twist to this story whereas the wolf become the good “guy” in this story!!!!

These are pretty horrid pigs,  they are so rude and mean that their own mother kicks them out into the world to build their own homes. Of course, they are too lazy to give it much of an effort. The friendly, neighborhood carpenter Wolf wanted to help the horrid pigs build homes from the usual materials (straw, sticks...) But are they grateful? Oh no! Not these horrid pigs. When he asks if he can come in, they threaten the Big Friendly Wolf with no end of huffing and puffing……
