Term 3 - Parent Teacher Meeting

Things is taking a slight change in term 3.. My boy is no longer quiet in class who give full attention during lesson (as what the teachers mentioned in Term 1 PTM)

“He likes to talk!”, “他突然变得很活泼,也很爱和朋友说话”… these are first comments that the teachers gave me when we start our session. :(  Its good that I know that he is getting well with his classmates, but being too talkative in class is still not a good thing. Its to the extent that the teacher cannot stand it and separated him from his good friend in class. Due to his (活泼)activeness, he run about carelessly very often, and fell down quite a few times, but luckily its all not too serious.

Overall, the comments given by both his teachers are almost the same.

The Chinese teacher (郭老师) commented that his learning ability is very strong and he can pick up concepts very fast and has no problem understanding what the teacher says. His Spoken Chinese has improve alot as compared to term 1, he speaks in longer sentence with the Chinese teacher now. The same goes to the English teacher (Mrs Fong)  who feedback that he learn things fast. At the end of the class, Mrs Fong would ask every kids individually what is taught for that day, and Javier knows his stuffs well too.

They pointed out that he is good in his fine motor skill, and he can trace, colour very well. He is very independent when it comes to doing his work in class and he does it with no help from the teachers. Mrs Fong show me some of his work for this term and commented that his work is good, but occasionally when he is busy talking, he tends to make mistakes in some of the works which required the kids to listen carefully to the instructions.

The one point that worry me initially is both teachers say that he has short attention span, they  told me that he tend to look distracted in class and appears to be in daze or playing with his clothes during lesson. So the teacher would purposely select him to ask him questions and he always answers it correctly! So they conclude that he might be bored with the things that the teacher had already taught earlier on or not very keen in the subject taught, and thus loses his interest and focus during lesson time. (This comment has left me feeling quite worried. :{ )

Overall, he has no behavioral issues. The teacher said he is able to get along well with his friends and play well togather. While playing blocks, he would also discuss with his good friend on how to build things with the block as what the teachers had noticed. Both teachers told me he has 3 good buddy in class, and of course one is none other than Tiffany! :D

One area that needs improvement is that he doesn’t participate well in class. When teachers ask questions, he would never raise his hand to volunteer any answers. Instead, he is those kind that needs the teachers to pick him out to answer questions. Thus in order into increase his participation, 郭老师 likes to choose him quite often. :P

Sometimes, he tends to be quite emotional in school.  Few days ago, Mrs Fong mentioned the word ‘mummy’ during her lesson, he started to sob and keep saying “I want mummy…”… sob sob…. And this is not the first time that he sob and says “he wants mummy.” in class. But as compared to term 1 and 2, he is so much better already, he only sob and look for me once in a while.

I am glad that he is showing improvement and making friends and getting along well with peers and teachers in school. Although sometimes he still throw tantrum and says he doesn’t wants to go to school. But I can see that he love the teachers and vice-versa. (He loves to introduce his teachers to me when I go to his school and he even introduce Jayden to his teachers today) When his 2 assistant teachers saw him today, they like to tease him and joke with him and he loves to chat chat chat with them too. I guess it only means that he LOVES to talk! :D

While we speak with the teachers, Javier’s teacher Ms Evonne keep them entertain with colouring activity at the dining area until Javier could not hold it any longer after sitting down long enough to colour 2 sheets . He brought Jayden to his classroom and they were so excited to see us and not long after, they began their toys playing.

  1. Seriously, I don't think you need to worry about his "talkativeness". A child who loves to talk and is lively is better than one who doesn't talk. I think Javier is doing very well
at his age. Sometimes teachers like students to be well-behaved to the extent that the quieter they are in class, the better. But if we think about it, the ability to relate, communicate and express oneself will take you far when you're in adulthood.

  4. hmmmm... a kid who is talkative is good. but Javier choose the wrong time to talks lo.. :( He likes to chat chat with his friends when the teacher is teaching, thus he doesn't pay attention when the teacher teaches. And when it is time to talk, (during questions and answer, and activity time, he choose to be quiet.

Ee: weijin is a man of few words leh.. very cool de, Javier definetly does not take after him. keke.. :P
