Berries: 小一精英班

As I had mentioned earlier, we were contemplating whether to let Jayden continue his Berries class this year. The reason being that the timing is very rush for him, given that he reached home at 6.50 or 6.55pm and his class starts at 7.30pm. Thus after considering the pro and cons, we decided to let him continue for this term and see how it goes. Judging from the past 2 weeks, I would say that though it can be quite rush, but we managed quite well. He can still shower and have his dinner before we rush him to his lesson, reaching there punctually.

Jayden started his Berries class last Thursday and he was glad to see most of the same friends from last year. And he was double-ly glad to see the new boy who joined their class today, it was none other than his super good buddy from Hope kindy. The both of them were grinning from ear to ear when they hopped out of the classroom after the lesson! Open-mouthed smile

This is the textbook which they would be using for term 1. Most of the story are quite interesting with cute illustration.

Some of the worksheets in the workbook. As you can see, Hanyu Pinyin is greatly emphasize in Primary 1, even the instructions are written in Hanyu Pinyin.

Jayden loves going to his Berries lesson, reasons being that he can meet his friends (especially now that his good buddy is in the same class as him) and the teachers are very patience and nice to him. Most importantly, I think that he really learn well here and I can see great improvement in his Chinese.

  1. Oh no, I don know y, when I see singapore primary one Chinese book or enrichment book, I don like it. The reason being, not emphasize on Han zi, and mix around btw Han zi and Han yu pin yin..haih..no wonder kids will feel boring or not interested when they reach higher primary which is more Han zi, and we as a parent has to do alot in cultivate them to read more Chinese word Chinese book...I remember when I was in primary sch, Malaysia, my primary Chinese book very interesting de, and we only learn hypy later, so that student will have a very good foundation in Han zi.we can read Chinese newspaper in simplified Chinese and fan ti, in lower primary.

  2. ya, during my time, we also learn han zi first. I also feel that it's not a good thing to emphasize so much on hanyu pin during P1 and P2.... this will lead to the kids to be overly dependent on it. And ended up they don't know how to read words when without hanyu pinyin later on.
