Parents - Teacher Meeting

A term has passed by quickly, and Javier has been attending this kindy for more than 2 months. At time he would still tell me that he doesn’t want to go to school, but he still willingly board the school bus every morning. The bus aunty told me he is a well-behaved boy inside the bus. (but sometimes he would tell the aunty that he wants to look for his mummy) Hearing these comments really take a burden off me, as I was very worried that he wouldn’t want to take school bus.

Ok back to our main topic. I met with Javier’s Teachers Mrs Fong and 郭老师 today to better understand on Javier’s progress in school and the syllabus taught in school.

Session 1: Meeting with Mrs Fong (English Language Teacher)
Basically, Javier is doing well and coping well in school. He can do his work independently with little or no guidance, and he take pride in his work.

The teacher comment that he is a very outspoken boy in class who is always full of ideas, and he likes to share what he knows with the class.

Learning Attitude: As what the teacher told me he is an observant and alert child with high attention and concentration span.  He loves to do craft, and he is patient and determine to sit down and complete it. And he make sure he does a good job. Even though when all the kids have left to play toys, he will still remain at his table to finish the crafts.

He can express himself very well of his needs, and can converse well in his speech. But certain words he still can’t pronounce it correctly. So teacher suggest that we try to correct him at home.

Academically: He is on par with the requirement of  a 3 year old kids. He can count well and recognise all letters and numbers and recognise some words, his fine motor skill is good. From what the teacher told me, he got good interpretation skill and can relate and understand very well on the picture scenario based on the worksheet which the teacher got them to do.

Food and Feeding: He tends to be picky in food. But one good point to note is that he can self-helped in school. Which he doesn’t do at home, Perhaps it is due to peer pressure which prompted him to be more independent in school.

Social and Emotional: Last week when I was away in Japan, he was quite emotional in class. He would whine and sob in the middle of the lesson. He would ask the teacher “where is my mummy?”, “I want my mummy.” But other than last week, he seems to enjoy the lesson and participate well in most activity.

Temperament: He can be quite stubborn at times, if he doesn’t want to join in the activity at the moment, no matter how many times the teachers asked him or coax him to join, he would just sit on the floor and wouldn’t bulge.

Toilet Train in school: Initially I have posted my concern in his frequent urination in school( as frequent as 5-10mins). We brought him to see the doctor regarding this problem, and as it turns out he is having slight infection in his penis. So after the infection cleared, all was normal again, and the frequent urination problem is history now. :)

The teacher showed me the crafts that he did in school and discussed the things that they had learnt for the term 1 (and told me to do revision with him at home) and some photos of him during his lesson. And I can see that he enjoyed his lessons!!!

dividerSession 2: Meeting with 郭老师 (Chinese Language Teacher)

The comment from his Chinese teacher is almost the same as what Mrs Fong has spoken to me earlier on.

One point to improve is that she wants us to speak more mandarin to him at home, as from what she noted, he doesn’t speak mandarin so well in sentence.

He can read the Chinese reader well, as the teacher would get each student to come out and read it loud to the class.

And she kept reassuring me that Javier is a very obedient boy and doesn’t give her trouble in class. Oops why isn’t he like that at home??????

After attending this session with his teachers, I feel more reassure of his progress and attitude in school. Hopefully he would love to go to school soon. :)
